Whatever your horse does, we believe that he deserves to be healthy, comfortable and happy. Our approach to wellness includes general husbandry, nutritional counseling, vaccinations, de-worming, and dental care.

In general, we recommend administering both spring and fall vaccines to your horse.

The following are the vaccines we recommend for adult horses:

Our Spring Vaccine is called Core EQ Innovator. It is paired with Fluvac vaccine, and together they cover:

  • Eastern/Western Equine Encephalomyelitis
  • Rabies
  • Tetanus
  • West Nile
  • Influenza
  • Herpesvirus, types 1 and 4 (Rhino)

Our Fall Vaccine is called Fluvac. It is a 2-way vaccine that includes:

  • Influenza
  • Herpesvirus, types 1 and 4 (Rhino)

Vaccine protocols can be tailored to the specific needs of your horse, particularly if they have vaccine reactions. When vaccinating pregnant mares, weanlings, and yearlings, special rules apply.

For horses, who are sensitive or have had reactions in the past we offer Calvenza-03 intra-nasally.

Our parasite protocol consists of 2 fecal egg counts per year; one in the spring and fall. Fecal Egg Counts are the newest protocol in preventative parasite control in horses. This test allows us to see exactly how many parasite eggs your horse has in its feces, and deworm accordingly if necessary.

Since implementing this program at Mountain Point Equine we have found that most of our patients maintain well on 0 to 1 dewormings a year. This saves our horses from getting unnecessary medications, saves us money from the purchase of excessive dewormers, and keeps us from creating parasite resistance to the medications we use to prevent them.
